"Maurusfrei Architekten AG is an architectural office that builds cool things. Architecture is “commonplace”: we spend up to 80%, even 90% of our time in a built environment. This is why we think architecture should and must do more than merely satisfy a need for space. Architecture needs to move, enchant, give pleasure, create atmospheres and awaken emotions. For us, good architecture is a house that can solve many of the problems posed by a location or a client in a direct, simple and powerful manner. Solidarity and collegiality are very important to us and so is the fact that we can meet outside of work and do something together.
At Maurusfrei Architekten we primarily work in 3D: the advantage of 3D drawing is that we can show the client the house on the computer as soon as we have created it. We’re interested not only in drawing plans but also the process of modeling buildings, the virtual building model, the image and then constructing it afterwards. We train apprentices so we can pass on our knowledge: whenever new young people arrive, they breathe fresh life into the team. We share quite a bit with them – and we can also learn a good deal from them. Drafting means being in the office and drawing something cool: later on, you can actually visit the construction site and see what you’ve drawn once it’s been built. What pleases us most about our job is that we can influence the environment, that we can design. And not just like an artist who believes in art for art’s sake – we want to use the solution to a problem to design an environment and create spaces. This is surely the most appealing part, that means the house itself is more important than the plan. The house that is built interests us more than the drafted project."
